BenQ DW1625 LightScribe 16x DVD+-RW DL Writer Review

Model:  DW1625

Manufacturer:  BenQ

Provider:  eWaggle.com

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  04/05/05

We previously gave you a sneak peak at LightScribe Disc Labeling Technology and showed you just what it is capable of as well as its current drawbacks.  New LightScribe writers are slowly but surely starting to hit the market.  One of the first companies to release their model happens to be none other than BenQ.  Out of all the DVD writers I've had the pleasure of reviewing, the BenQ DW1620 was certainly the most impressive.  Today, we take a thorough look at the new BenQ DW1625, which may not bring next gen features to the table, but does offer full support for HP's new LightScribe direct disc labeling.

Our sample arrived in its retail packaging which includes some installation instructions, software CD, one blank LightScribe CD-R and some mounting screws.

The Drive

Our retail drive came with a very appealing black bezel.  Its hard to depict in pictures, but it has an almost mirror-like finish and certainly one of the best looking drives I've seen.  The status LED is also dual colored.  It is green when a disc is inserted and red when actually writing to media or printing a LightScribe label.  The loading tray is also black and the back of the drive is fairly standard.

The label on the BenQ DW1625 showed a manufactured date of February 2005.
