Pioneer DVR-108 16X DVD+-RW 4x Double Layer Writer

Model:  DVR-108

Manufacturer:  Pioneer

Provider:  eWaggle

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  08/15/04

It wasn't too long ago that double layer DVD writers hit the market. In fact, the media itself continues to be difficult to acquire. While mostly all
manufacturers have released their first gen double layer drives, one company has already jumped the gun with the highly anticipated release of their next generation double layer DVD writer.  Pioneer, a respected name in optical storage drives, has released their new DVR-108, the first drive capable of writing to double layer media at 4X. But that's not the only impressive feature though. This drive is also capable of writing to both DVD+R and DVD-R media at the blazing speed of 16X. With these capabilities, this drive appears to be a real winner, but lets find out if it really is.

Our sample was an OEM but did include an OEM version of Nero 6, an eWaggle blank DVD-R disc and a pamphlet that has information on its features as well as installation instructions.

For those who are wondering, the model we are looking at today has a standard faceplate and not one of the sexy models that Pioneer will be releasing a bit later.  Our sample has a simple white faceplate with one eject button and one status LED.  The rear is also quite standard but there is a small fan located in the center.

This drive is slightly longer in depth than your standard CD/DVD Writer.  The label had a manufacture date of July 2004.
