You can change your password, set the time and update your routers firmware.   The time can even be synchronized via NTP (Network Time Protocol).  For those who would like to manage your router remotely, you can enable it from here and specify the IP and port number.   From the Misc menu, you can perform ping tests as well as block all incoming ping requests.  Blocking WAN ping requests will make your broadband connection somewhat "hacker proof" however, those who run FTP's, chat clients or other file transfer programs would want to disable this feature.  The DI-604 offers VPN support.  You can enable VPN pass through for IPSec and PPTP protocols.  This is feature that is usually seen in more expensive routers.  While not as robust as other routers, it's definitely a great feature to see, especially in a router in this price range.  Another great feature worth mentioning is the ability to use Dynamic DNS services.  This is great for those who frequently run FTP's or host a website and require a "static" IP.  Even if your ISP does not provide a static IP, you can signup to one of many Dynamic IP services and enter the information in these fields.

The status screen allows you to view your current LAN and WAN configuration.  The log section will display all activities and even will allow you to customize what you would like to monitor.  Once the long is full, it will automatically email the log to a specified email address.  One of the main reasons I like to use a router is for these activity logs.  You'll be surprised with what you will come across.  The Stats screen will provide basic send/receive statistics.

Last but not least is the help menu.  It offers information on all your router's settings and is definitely helpful for those who are unfamiliar with most of the features or for those novice users who don't have a clue on how to manage one of these devices.

Conclusion

Good things come in small packages.  That is the case with the D-Link DI-604.  It is a feature rich, easy to use router suitable for users of all levels.  It has features that are typically seen in more expensive routers, yet you can pick one of these up for as low as $30. (retail!)  At this price tag, there is no reason not to have one.  Those who have been sticking to software alternatives like ICS should consider the DI-604.  I doubt you'll find a router with this many features for less money. 

D-Link has made such an excellent product at a price everyone can afford.  I will not hesitate to give it our "Extreme Excellence Award".
