Installation
On a Windows XP system, no drivers are really
needed. The mouse is quickly found and you'll immediately see just how
sensitive it really is. As Tom stated, it may actually be too
sensitive for normal desktop use. However, the excellent and
user-friendly software will allow
you to adjust tracking "on-the-fly" quickly and easily.

After installing the Razer software, you'll
find an icon on the systray for quick access to all settings.

The small and user-friendly application will
allow you to make adjustments such as orientation,
sensitivity and custom button functions.
Performance

The
Diamondback Plasma was tested on a wide variety of performance mouse pads,
including the original HardOCP Ratzpad,
Steelpad 4D,
Steelpad 4S,
Aerocool
Aeropad and my personal favorite, the
X-Ray Thunder 8 dual surface pad.
I
can honestly say that the
infrared LED certainly did not affect its overall performance. In
fact, its tracking was quite exceptional. It
performed well on all pads with the exception of the Steelpad 4D, a pad
which I'm personally not too fond of anyways. It simply would not
track on this pad. Keep that in mind if you do have one of these pads
and do plan to get one of these. Best tracking came from the Thunder 8, followed
closely by the AeroCool Aeropad.
I'm
only a casual gamer, however, a precise mouse is of the highest importance
to me as I do plenty of image and video editing. Extensive sessions
with Photoshop CS2, TMGEnc Pro, DVD-Lab Pro and Ulead Video Studio were quite pleasant.
Casual gaming with classics such as Payne 2 and Forsaken was also quite
pleasant. The optical sensor on the Plasma never powers down and provides constant and
precise tracking at all times. Overall, its performance was truly
impressive but again, a bit too sensitive for normal everyday desktop use.
