Over the years, we've seen many flash drives
hit the market with many unique features to offer. However, while
small is in, and many have been designing their drives this way in order to
stand out from this highly competitive market, others try and find other new
ways to entice many. That's what brings me to the latest review here
at ExtremeMHz. Corsair, already highly respected for their excellent,
high performance desktop memory, attempts to once again gain as much
interest in this market as they have already accomplished with their
high-speed Voyager series flash drives. With their latest flash drive,
they take a completely different approach. Forget small, because this
drive is far from it. What makes it unique is its method of
providing a higher level of security. Their new "Padlock" series,
hence its name, has a digital padlock built into the drive itself.
Yes, it is one of the first flash drives to feature a hardware-based lock.
Let's have a look at this beast...

As
with all flash drives, it ships in a standard blister pack. However,
Corsair has always added a couple of extra goodies along with their flash
drives. This includes a handy USB extension cable and lanyard.
The Drive

Now, upon taking it out of the box, the very first thing you'll notice is
how large this flash drive is. Don't let pictures deceive you...this
is one large flash drive and will bring you back to the days when flash
drives first hit the market. In fact, the only way I can describe its
physical design is that of one large Lego block, especially when referring
to its detachable USB header cap.

Putting all these design flaws aside, let's focus more on its main
feature...that digital padlock. The front of the drive sports a 10
digit keypad combined into five actual buttons. You also have your
lock/unlock status LED's and another LED in the bottom front for activity.
The drive sports a very high gloss, black finish that is accented with a
Corsair logo on the bottom rear of the flash drive.

Finally, to give you a better idea of its overall size, the top to pics show
it next to a number of other flash drives, including the smallest on the
market. Unfortunately, while I have many of their Voyager drives, I
did not have one handy at the time of this review and is why I did not
include it in the pics above. However, for those wondering, this flash
drive is substantially bigger than their Voyager drives, including their 8GB
GT
high-speed models.
Specifications
Unfortunately, as much as I like to provide very detailed specs on a
product, I couldn't find much on this drive. In fact, the Corsair
Website fails to provide them and I had to resort to numerous sources to
come up with the following, which I can not seem to confirm are entirely
accurate. However, based on extensive research, these are the best
specifications I can provide on this product...
