CoPilot Live 6 - GPS Navigation for your Smartphone

Model:  CoPilot Live 6 (Smartphone Edition)

Manufacturer:  ALK Technologies

Provider:  ALK Technologies

Reviewed By:  Miguel

GPS navigation is something that most are still quite unfamiliar with or are reluctant to even consider venturing into it.  Most think that they can only take advantage of it when buying a new car equipped with one or buying an expensive aftermarket navigation system costing you hundreds of dollars.  ALK Technologies had been in the business for quite some time and is a respected company when it comes down to GSP navigation.  They have all ends covered, providing products to support not only Pocket PC's, but Smartphones as well.  Today I have the sheer pleasure of looking at their new CoPilot 6 Live designed especially for Smartphones.  Let's take a thorough look...

ALK sent over their kit that not only includes their software, but their GPS receiver as well.  The package includes your GPS software discs, GPS receiver, Car power adapter, cable adapter for Smartphones and vent mounting kit.

The Receiver

Like most of the quality GPS receivers on the market, the one bundled with CoPilot software is quite small and sports the most reliable GPS chipset, the SiRFstarIII.  The picture above shows just how small the receiver is next to an Audiovox SMT-5600 Smartphone.

Its overall design is quite the norm when compared to other bluetooth receivers on the market.  It has an all black housing with their logo on the front of the unit.  The front also features a total of three status LED's, one for bluetooth connectivity, one as a GPS indicator and one for charging/battery status.

The top front features your on/off switch and power jack.  There is also a notch in case you do want to tie it around your neck to make yourself a target.
