Installation & Testing

Test System

• Pentium 4 3.0C w/Swiftech MCX478-V cooler
• Abit IC7-MAX3 Motherboard
• I Gig Corsair XMS 4000 Pro DDR RAM
• ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Video Card
• Audigy 2 Platinum Sound Card
• 2 X Western Digital 200 gig SATA 7200 rpm Hard Drives
• Plextor 708A DVD burner
• Liteon 52X CD-ROM
• Mitsumi 7 in 1 card reader
• Silverstone Eudemon Fan Controller

The install, thanks to the tool free system, went very smoothly. As usual, my Mitsumi card reader would not work with the tool free system, so I had to mount it with the extra long screws.

Testing consisted of starting up the system and letting it sit for an hour to obtain idle temperatures. Then, I loaded the system with the Sisoft SANDRA burn in wizard for another hour to obtain load temperatures. Ambient temperature was 25°C +/- .5°C for the duration of the testing.

Idle Load
29ºC 31ºC

The Cavalier’s cooling system is not spectacular, but it is up to standard. 4 degrees above ambient is about what we normally see out of modern cases.

One thing that struck me about this case is that it is very quiet compared to some of the other cases I’ve had here in the lab. About the most distinct noise coming from the Cavalier with all these components is the whine of the hard disks. The door also does a pretty good job at quieting down noisy CD-ROMS.
