Installation & Testing

Installation on a WinXP machine
couldn't be any easier. Just plug in the USB cable and place the mouse
on the pad. It is quickly identified and you can begin using it without
the need for tuning via the tune button. The mouse does light up red in
color, including the large scroll wheel. Drivers are not needed for
Windows XP but their website does supply drivers for older operating systems.

Once operational, you should see the red power
LED and the green run led light up when the mouse is in use. As far
as performance goes, the mouse worked exceptionally well with no lag or loss
of connection whatsoever. It was very precise and its battery-free
design makes it so lightweight, that it glides across the pad with ease. The
large scroll wheel worked great and does function as a button, however, I wish it
had an additional side button as well. The only issue I really have with
it is the pad itself. The bottom of the pad does not grip to surfaces
very well and over extensive use, I found the pad would be moving all over the
place and had to re-position it from time to time. As far as the mouse
goes, the buttons themselves are quite noisy and feel and sound very similar to that of the
Auravision EluminX Laser Mouse we reviewed some time ago.
Conclusions

I was quite pleased with this product.
This new concept does work well and while some may not see the benefits
considering it must be used on the special mouse pad, those who absolutely
hate corded mice and generally use the mouse in the same work space every time
would find this product of interest. There is no need to worry about
batteries and the mouse is much lighter than any other wireless mouse on the
market. As with every product, it is not without its flaws. For
one, the pad itself does not grip to surfaces very well and you'll probably
want to find some type of gripping material to keep it in place. As far
as the mouse goes, the right/left buttons are quite noisy and there are no
additional buttons to play with other than the scroll wheel. Regardless,
it is a highly innovative input device that will allow you to enjoy cordless
freedom without the added cost. EM recommended.
