A4Tech Battery Free Wireless Optical Mouse

Model:  NB-30

Manufacturer:  A4Tech

There are many wireless mice on the market that use either RF or bluetooth to communicate with your PC.  However, all these mice require one thing that can be quite costly over time...batteries.  If the input device is cordless, it requires batteries in order for it to function right? Well, not necessarily. A4Tech has released a highly innovative new wireless mouse that uses a slightly different method for power.  This battery-free mouse uses RFID to communicate with the included "special" mouse pad. Let's have a closer look at this rather interesting new product.

What is RFID?

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology is actually nothing new and it has been used for many years, mainly as a means for tracking goods.  However, there are many new uses and the A4Tech Battery-Free mouse incorporates this technology in order to provide power and communicate with the wireless mouse.  Like RF, it basically uses radio waves to automatically identify objects but its shorter range and unique identification capabilities does not cause any interference with other RF devices.

Included in the package is a special mouse pad with USB cable built-in and a short instruction booklet.

The mouse itself is highly attractive and features a two-toned silver/black design.  It is extremely light and the scroll wheel is much thicker than most other mice.

To compliment its design, the mouse pad also features a black/silver design and looks just as appealing.  Its size is just about right for a mouse pad, but the USB cable could have been a little longer.

The top of the pad features two status LEDs, one for power and one for activity.  There is also a tune button which I found is not really needed at all.  We'll explain later...
