Belkin OmniView 4-port KVM Review - Intro, Contents & Features

Model:  F1DS104U

Manufacturer:  Belkin

Reviewed By:  hmale

There was a time in the not too distant past where KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switches were devices that were relegated to the domain of the I.T. professional. KVM switches were typically enterprise solutions that allowed multiple users to gain access to mission critical networks and/or servers in a quick and efficient manner by way of a single module. Today that is no longer the case.

Many of us have multiple systems that we use with regularity. Some of us are space constrained and find it impossible to add more monitors, keyboards, and mice in a confined environment. Still others have financial constraints that make it impossible to invest significant money in additional peripherals. The advent of the home office is yet another contributing factor for the need to adapt an approach that businesses have used for years. To meet this need, Belkin, one of the leading providers of computer accessories has developed the “OmniView” line of products. Today ExtremeMhz will be reviewing the OmniView SOHO series which allows a single user to control up to 4 computers from a single unit located at arms length.

Package & Contents

The package we received consisted of the KVM module itself and 4 sets of optional USB/Video cables.  The cables we chose are the standard 6’ length. Various cable lengths are offered up to 25’. In the unlikely event that cables over 25’ are required, powered cable extensions are offered for remote usage from a distance of up to 250’.

The KVM unit was packaged very well. The contents of the package included the primary module, a shroud for cable management, a desktop stand, a 9V DC transformer, a cable for firmware upgrades, and a user’s guide.
