AT&T Fuze - Their New Flagship Windows Mobile Phone

Model:  AT&T Fuze (HTC Touch Pro USA 3G)

Manufacturer:  HTC

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  12/10/08

HTC, the largest and most respected manufacturer of Windows Mobile devices, has managed to put out a number of phones over the past few years that have revolutionized the way we look at a Windows-powered phone.  This is all due to their impressive TouchFLO interface.  Full credit should be given to them for setting a trend to make Windows-powered phones much more "touch-friendly".  They are the reason behind the growing number of both manufacturers and developers designing more user-friendly means of navigating this "stylus-dependant" OS.

The latest USA release from the company is yet another example as to just how truly innovative and powerful their devices really are.  Through several months of agony and frustration, it has finally hit US soil and they chose none other than AT&T to carry and support this remarkable phone.  I'm referring to none other than the US version of their popular HTC Touch Pro.  Sporting an impressive VGA screen, excellent slide-out keyboard, GPS, Wi-Fi and excellent hardware specs, this phone truly offers just about everything one can possibly ask for.

This very thorough review will cover all this and as I always do, will also go further into its features and capabilities in order to once again demonstrate just how highly functional these phones can be.  In addition, a deviation from my standard review guidelines will be taken to cover everything you'll need to know about this phone before you spend your hard-earned money on it.  This will be valuable information that is based on not only my long-term experience owning such a phone, but also based on extensive research done over the past several months regarding the release of this highly anticipated Pocket PC phone.  There have been many early reviews of this phone but none are quite as comprehensive as this one.  I spent plenty of time using and tweaking this phone to come to such conclusions.

Packaging & Contents

No, don't expect that neat packaging like the diamond-shaped box the original HTC Touch Diamond shipped in.  AT&T chose their dull and somewhat old orange and white box to house the new Fuze.  However, unlike most pictures you'll find online, the box is much smaller than it looks.  The bundle itself is nothing out of the ordinary.  Included is an AC charger, lithium Ion battery, mini USB cable, 3.5mm audio adapter/headphone jack, spare stylus, manual, start guide and software CD.  Unlike models shipped in original HTC packaging, note that no headphones/earbuds are included.

Specifications

Now, what many do not know and is very important to note is that a final US model release of an original Euro/Asia HTC phone may differ in many areas, including its design, hardware specs and loaded software and/or functionality.  The new AT&T Fuze is a perfect example of this and is why I personally put the following custom specs together to give you an overall idea of what to expect.  Not only did I find the carrier's specs incorrect in a few areas, but a bit misleading as well.
