AeroCool AeroBase Flashing Gaming Pad Review

I tried the pad with a variety of mice, including our much-publicized modded Logitech dual optical mouse.  Blue LED mice actually did work on the smooth black surface, but sensitivity adjustments needed to be made in software.  All other mice, including those from Samsung, Microsoft and Logitech worked very well.  The surface is extremely smooth and the mice glide across the pad with minimal friction.

I took some videos of some of flashing sequences for demonstration.  The video below demonstrates a few of the effects this pad features.  You will need the macromedia flash to see any of the following video clips.

The first clip shows a few of the flashing effects that you can set via the small black button on the front of the pad itself.

This pad also has one very odd feature that allows the pad to react to your cell phone's signal.  While I think the feature itself is quite useless, it's the whole "cool factor" that manages to impress those who do see it.  When your mobile phone receives a call, the built-in sensor reacts to the incoming signal and the LEDs flash about 3 times faster.  The video clip below demonstrates this rather eccentric but

cool feature.

In order for this to work, I found you have to set the pad to one of the blinking modes.  This means that if you have the light set to always on, it will not work.  Another thing, is the short distance in which it will be able to pick up the signal.  This is only about 5cm, which practically means that the cell phone would have to be on the pad itself to function.  Regardless, all of you fellow comp geeks will get a kick out of it.  Yes, that is an SMT5600 smartphone on the video, which is currently being reviewed here at ExtremeMHz.

Conclusions

The AeroCool AeroBase is certainly in a class of its own.  It is a highly appealing and innovative gaming pad that is primarily designed to please enthusiasts, modders and all of us geeks in general.  Although the actual mousing surface is quite small, it works exceptionally well with a wide variety of optical mice and provides incredibly smooth and precise tracking.  Its innovative design and excellent tracking earns our recommendation.

The AeroCool AeroBase can be picked up at Xoxide.com for only $17.99.
