Swiftech MCW5000 Water Block Review - Continued

Testing & Benchmarking

Our test configuration consisted of the following:

Motherboard Epox 8K3A
CPU AMD 2000+ XP (unlocked)
Memory Cosair XMS3200-C2 (256MB Module)
HDD WD 200B (20G x 7200RPM)
Video Card Generic GForce2
PSU Antec True 550W
OS XP Professional SP1

The air cooled tests were conducted using a generic heat sink combined with a Delta 60mm fan.

The water cooled portion of the tests included the MCW5000-A, working in conjunction with a modified Lytron Modular Cooling System (MCS) model 10G03M01.

Here are some pictures of the Lytron MCS . We will be reviewing this unit in an upcoming article.

Motherboard Monitor 5 and CPU-Z are the 2 programs we used to gather relevant system information. For benchmarking purposes, Sandra 2003 and PCMark 2002 were used.

Our test methodology consisted of gathering system data and benchmark results at:

1. Default settings using air cooling.
2. Maximum achieved overclock using air cooling.
3. Maximum achieved overclock using the MCW 5000-A water block.

After gathering the required data, we will perform comparative analysis.

Test note 1: Ambient temperatures was maintained at 25 degrees for all tests.
Test note 2: All tests and benchmarks were performed after stressing the test configuration for 30 minutes using Sandra's "Burn in Wizard".
Test note 3: Memory settings were a constant 2-3-3-6 for all tests.

Our test results at default settings were as follows:
