Abit IC7-G Canterwood Motherboard Review

PC Mark 2002

Let's check out the CPU and Memory scores from PC Mark 2002.

**200FSB**

**245FSB**

Again we see some very nice results, even when running at default speeds.  We were able to break the 10K barrier in our memory tests when overclocking using the excellent Corsair 4000 Pro series memory.

The final tests we will perform are the PC Mark Crunch Tests.   These consist of a total of 3 different test that are run simultaneously in order to measure how well the system can handle multi-tasking.  They include a CPU test, memory test and video card memory test which focuses on the memory bandwidth and AGP bus.

Some solid scores once again.  This board really shines when overclocking.

Overall, the Abit IC7-G performed quite well in all tests when compared to the reference systems and others we have tested.  With some quality ram, you can achieve some excellent results.

Conclusion

What can I say, we were completely impressed with this board.  Abit has a reputation for making some high quality, high performing motherboards.  The Abit IC7-G is no exception.  Its got just about everything an enthusiast would look for in a motherboard.  Its a full-featured board with an excellent hardware bundle and appealing design.  Its excellent SoftMenu allows for hassle free overclocking.  It offers great overclocking potential with some rather impressive results.  The board was completely stable, even at our maximum OC using quality memory.  It has a rather nice layout with the exception of the IDE connectors which are placed vertically and located on the far right of the motherboard.  This may be an issue for users with full tower cases.  Its even got dual SATA controllers which would probably be the way to go with this board.  One other thing we would like to note is that we were unable to take advantage of the Street Racer and F1 game accelerator options, even with high quality RAM.  Regardless of the fact, its performance is top-notch, even at default settings.   If your in search of a good Canterwood motherboard and money is no option, the Abit IC7-G deserves some serious consideration.

Pros Cons
  • Superior Quality
  • Excellent Performance
  • SoftMenu
  • Generous Bundle
  • Dual SATA Controllers
  • Great Looks
  • Somewhat Expensive
  • Game Accelerator a bit flakey

With its generous bundle, high performance and superior quality, the Abit IC7-G earns our highest recommendation and "Extreme Excellence Award".
