Gigabyte 3D Aurora Gaming Case Review

Features

The Gigabyte Aurora is an exceptionally designed chassis with lots of attention to detail.

The front is probably the most appealing, featuring a well-crafted brushed aluminum door revealing five external 5.25" bays.  Yes, it is a full tower chassis so there is plenty of room for components.

There is a plastic storage compartment screwed onto the HDD drive bay.  This is where all the included hardware comes, but can also be conveniently used to store other stuff if you plan on making this your LAN case.

Another thing to note is its excellent tool-free design. The 5.25" drives are installed without the need for screws or drive rails and the PCI slots sport a unique tool-free method I have yet to see featured on other cases.  Basically, there is just one latch that is released that will allow you to install all your PCI cards and easily locks back into place.  It actually holds the cards better than other standard tool-free designs I've seen.

Also, note the two rubber outlets right above the PCI slots.  These are designed to support all external watercooling kits and after testing this chassis, can confirm it supports internal models as well.  More on that later.

The Gigabyte Aurora does offer some impressive cooling.  Considering it is a full tower chassis, the rear of the case sports not one but two 120mm fans with blue LEDs.  On the front, you'll find another 120mm just like the rear models.

This is a gaming case so there are front USB, Firewire and audio extensions.  However, with the 3D Aurora, they are located on the right front of the case.  Something interesting to note here is that the odd placement of the status LEDs.  Both the power and HDD activity LEDs are located right below the front I/O ports.  Kind of odd, but that's just one of the things that makes this case so unique and a break from the norm.

Last but not least, is the very cool lighting feature that is designed primarily to please all you case modders out there.

On the bottom front of the case is a plastic removable bracket that projects the 3DAurora logo on the floor.  This actually explains why the front sticks out quite a bit.  That's not the neat part though!  They also include an extra bracket for those case modders that would like to project their own custom logo.  So how does it actually work?  We'll, it is actually quite simple...

When you remove the front panel, you'll find a super bright blue LED pointing downwards directly on the removable panel.  This is what helps project the logo onto most surfaces.  I say most because it obviously does not work well with carpet or darker colored surfaces.  However, I will show you just how well it works in the install portion, which features a custom made logo as well.
